Swimming Champion Michael Phelps is the most decorated Olympian of all time – after he won his 20th Olympic medal, and his second gold of these Games, in the 200m individual medley.
He would be ahead of Georgia, Uzbekistan, Croatia, Chile, Israel, the old Russian Empire and Tunisia. He’s only just behind India, Taiwan, Portugal, Nigeria and Thailand in total medal count. In terms of golds, he’s ahead of North Korea.
He now has 16 gold medals, two silvers (the same as Team GB so far this games) and two bronze. If Phelps were a country, he would be 57th in the world league table of Olympic medal winners on total medals alone (the so-called US ranking). His nearest US rival, swimmer Dara Torres, won 12 medals in total, including four golds.
Nigeria has a total count of 2Golds, Nine Silvers and 12 Bronze at the Olympics ever

Nigeria is still to record her first medal at the London 2012 Olympics.
