
Johannesburg – Three people, including a baby, were shot and injured in a robbery at Randridge Mall in Johannesburg on Saturday, Gauteng police said.A fourth person, a policeman, was wounded in a shootout during a chase that ensued, said Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini.
At 10:30, five armed men entered a jewellery store at the mall and held the staff at gunpoint before stealing jewellery.
Dlamini said a 56-year-old manager and a 1-and-half year-old baby were shot in their legs. Another 47-year-old man was shot in the stomach.
The gang fled in a bakkie.
Police gave chase and a police officer was shot and injured, said Dlamini.
A short while later, the getaway vehicle lost control and crashed. One robber, who was found injured inside the bakkie, was arrested.
A second robber was apprehended after he was tracked with a police dog.
Two others were found hiding in a house and handcuffed.
The fifth robber escaped and was being sought by police.
Police seized three bags of jewellery and two firearms.
