I am one of those saddened by this, but one of the longest running transfer battle is over, as Arsenal have agreed to sell their captain, Robin van Persie, to Manchester United.
Sir Alex Ferguson stepped up his pursuit of the striker, who scored 30 goals last season, after he lost Lucas Moura to PSG. His initial bids of around £10 million and £15 million, were thrown out by the Gunners.
But after intense negotiations this week, Arsenal have let Van Persie leave, for a deal that is reported to be about £24 million. The 29-year-old striker, who was also linked with Juventus and Manchester City early in the summer, will sign a four-year deal and will reportedly earn £220,000 weekly.A statement released by the club, on their official website read:“Arsenal Football Club can confirm that terms have been agreed for the transfer of Robin van Persie to Manchester United.
“Van Persie will travel to Manchester on Thursday in order to agree personal terms and complete a medical ahead of the proposed move.
“Further updates will feature on Arsenal.com in due course.”
